Abstract
This article describes the Vision III™ SCA™ imaging methods used in recording live-action scenes on 35mm motion-picture film. The single-camera, single-lens SCA system uses a parallax scan to produce realistic three-dimensional images that are broadcast-compatible and require no special viewing equipment. The system's lens and film plane remain in continuous motion with reference to the camera's nominal optical axis, providing parallax information through a continuously changing point of view. The technique also notably enhances apparent image sharpness. New elliptical scanning techniques, now being developed, promise to further enhance image quality.
