Abstract

A 35-year-old African-American man presented with a 4-week history of cough with white-colored sputum. He also reported fever, night sweats, and a 21-lb weight loss over the past month despite good appetite. His medical history was significant for eczema since childhood and recurrent pneumonias started in 2001. He had 2-pack-year history of smoking and a history of consumption of six beers per day, but he had quit both behaviors 2 months prior to the hospital admission. He worked for a painting company.
