Abstract

A Zn(II) metal-organic framework (MOF), [Zn2(tpdc)2(H2O)2](H2O)2(DMF)5 (1, H2tpdc=5′-(4-(4H-1,2,4-triazol-4-yl)phenyl)-[1,1′:3′,1″-terphenyl]-4,4″-dicarboxylic acid), was synthesized under solvothermal condition. In this structure, 2D (6,3) layers show parallel arrangement with open windows of ca. 12.4×8.0Å2. Due to the size-exclusive effect, the size-matchable Neutral Red (NR) can be effectively removed by MOF 1 from water solution (93.71%), while two unmatchable counterparts, Basic Red 2 (BR) and Methyl Orange (MO), were relatively less captured (26.96 and 13.74%). In addition, such spatial effect can be also confirmed by dealing with two positively charged organic dyes, methylene blue (MB) and Brilliant Green (BG).
