Abstract

A layer compound, [Cd2(bibp)2.5(DMA)3(DMF) 2 (SiW12O40)]n (1), which was synthesized via a self-assembly procedure by the reaction of silicotungstic acid, cadmium ion and bichelate-bridging ligand (4,4′-bis(imidazolyl)biphenyl, bibp) in the solution of DMF and DMA, has been characterized by IR, elemental analysis, TGA, X-ray single crystal diffractometer and electrochemistry. Single crystal structure analysis shows that the structure for 1 represents hoop-club chains by the cadmium ions and the bibp ligands, extends to layers by the [SiW12O40]4− polyanions and further spreads to 3D by hydrogen bond via the bridge oxygen atoms in [SiW12O40]4− units. The electrochemical investigation shows that compound 1 exhibits POM-based electro-catalytic behavior for the reduction of nitrite.
