Abstract

A 27-year-old Chinese man with chronic cough and sputum production was referred to the pulmonary clinic for evaluation. He suffered from recurrent episodes of respiratory tract infections since childhood. He had previously been diagnosed with sinusitis and bronchitis and was frequently treated with antibiotics and expectorants. Several years ago, he underwent myringotomy and tube placement for purulent infection in his left middle ear, but his hearing continued to deteriorate.
