Abstract

A 24-27 GHz phased array transceiver with 6bit phase shifter (PS) and 31.5dB gain control is presented for 5G communication. The transceiver consists of 6bit PS based on the passive vector modulation topology, and two digitally controlled variable gain amplifiers (VGA) with variable gain control range of 31.5dB and 0.5dB step. LNA and PA with embedded T/R switch are optimally co-designed to achieve excellent performance of the 5.2dß NF and 14.5dBm OP-1dB. The transceiver achieves 2°-3.6° RMS phase error, 0.2-0.4dB RMS gain error over 24-27GHz. The core area is only 1mm 2 , and the power consumption is 160mW/250mW in the RX/TX mode.
