Abstract

A special X-Ray Image Intensifier (XRII), derived from a medical device, has been developed for low energy X-ray detection. The performance of a complete detection system using this XRII optically coupled to a slow scan CCD camera is presented. DQE in excess of 50% between 6 and 25 keV is obtained, together with an equivalent input dark signal of a few X-ray quanta per second per cm 2; spatial resolution is 250 μm FWHM. One megapixel images with a 14 bit dynamic range are obtained in 5 s.
