Abstract

At the Kernforschungszentrum Karlsruhe (KfK), Germany, a new flexible He refrigerator/liquefier with a 4.4 K equivalent cooling power of 2 kW has been installed. The plant will be used to test sc model coils for the Next European Torus (NET) and the International Thermonuclear Experimental Reactor (ITER) in the TOSKA UP facility as well as for other cryogenic experiments. The basic capacity of the refrigerator is simultaneously 700 W at 3.3 K, 400 W at 4.4 K, 1000 W at 70 K and 4 g/s liquefaction. Refrigeration increase is possible with liquid nitrogen precooling and also with liquid He from the 10,000 liter tank. For the cooldown of large magnet systems 20 kW are available down to 80 K.
