Abstract

AbstractA 2.6–3.4 GHz low‐voltage voltage‐controlled oscillator (VCO) with a boosted transconductance is presented. The proposed VCO operates with less current dissipation for oscillation start‐up, being enabled to supply voltage reduction. The phase noise of the proposed VCO is improved by not entering in deep triode region of MOSFETs. Implemented in a 65‐nm CMOS, the measurements results show 800 MHz of tuning range, consuming 1.56 mW at 0.6 V supply. The measured phase noise is −116 dBc/Hz at 1 MHz offset from a 3.3‐GHz carrier. © 2012 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
