Abstract

This paper addresses a noncascaded connection of two power converters for achieving power factor correction (PFC) and fast voltage regulation for high power applications. The noncascaded structure can inherently achieve a higher overall efficiency because part of the input power is processed by only one power conversion stage before it is transferred to the output load. A PFC AC/DC power supply that employs an isolated boost full-bridge (EBFB) converter for PFC with noncascaded connection to a buck-boost converter for voltage regulation is described. A prototype of the proposed power supply is constructed and the experimental waveforms are given.
