Abstract

A 22.5 Gbaud four-level pulse amplitude modulation (PAM4) signal applied to free-space optical link was experimentally tested using a 3 dB laser at a bandwidth of 10 GHz to directly modulate the 22.5 Gbaud PAM4 signal via injection-locked technology. Through the design of pre-compensation and equalizer for signal quality improvement, a successful transmission of 150 m in free space was achieved with good real-time bit error rate performance and clear eye diagrams (three independent eye diagrams).
