Abstract

A prospective audit was undertaken between 1996 and 2006 at Southampton University Hospitals of all cases of microvascular free tissue transfer in which a single surgeon personally undertook or oversaw all vascular anastamoses. There were a total of 67 cases comprising of 46 radial forearm flaps, 18 fibula flaps, 2 scapula flaps and 1 lateral arm flap. Sixty-one of the cases were undertaken for reconstruction following ablative surgery for head and neck malignancy, 4 for upper limb reconstruction and 1 each for osteoradionecrosis of the mandible and pharyngeal stenosis.
