Abstract

Parametric analysis and process optimization of steam cycle in double reheat ultra-supercritical power plants were performed in this study. Thermal and economic analyses were presented to reveal the benefits brought from the parametric analysis and process optimization. Parametric analysis of reheat pressure was firstly carried out to improve thermal performance of the double reheat steam cycle with eight-stage regenerative heaters. An optimized process of steam cycle with ten-stage regenerative heaters was put forward to further improve thermal performance of the double reheat power plant. The results showed that the power generation efficiency of the double reheat power plant could increase by 0.49 percentage point by parametric and process optimization. The economic analysis revealed that the cost of electricity of the double reheat power plant with both optimized process and parameters will decrease from 49.55 $/MWh to 49.07 $/MWh. This study could indicate that parametric analysis and process optimization of the steam cycle can both improve thermal and economic performances of double reheat ultra-supercritical power plants.
