Abstract

Chronic pain and psychological distress and have been found to frequently co-occur. The purpose of the current study was to investigate the temporal relationship between chronic pain and psychological distress in individuals with pain and their spouses. Previous studies found that spouses of individuals with pain are likely to experience pain and depression, although the temporal relationship has not been examined. The participants were 52 individuals with chronic musculoskeletal pain (24 males and 28 females) and their spouses (N = 104).
