Abstract

Pseudo-shock wave, which plays an important role in the transition of combustion-mode of the dual-mode ramjet engine, was investigated in diverging ducts with experiment and numerical simulation. Heat was added to Mach 1.8 airstream by a plasma torch and combustion of hydrogen. In order to estimate effect of divergence, a quasi-one dimensional model was proposed. The model agreed the results of the numerical simulation as well as those of experiments using only the plasma torch. The model suggested that the combustion efficiency of hydrogen discretely injected was low.
