Abstract

Chapter 9 addresses the transmission of sound through nonporous surfaces, transmission loss (and its measurement) between reverberant spaces, sound transmission class, and noise reduction. Single panel transmission loss theory discusses free single panels, the mass law, thin panels and the coincidence effect, thick panels, and shear effects. The chapter proceeds to deal with double panels (and the transmission loss theory thereof), cavity insulation, and from there it continues to triple panel theory (comparing it with double), structural connections, and apertures.
