Abstract

Strong leadership skills are paramount to mastering the core competencies identified by the ACGME. In the changing culture of medicine, physicians must lead new medical systems. To prepare residents for leadership roles, we must first identify their baseline strengths and weaknesses. The Leadership Practices Inventory (LPI) is a well validated instrument that measures behaviors in five domains of leadership: model the way, inspire a shared vision, challenge the process, enable others to act, and encourage the heart. To date, there is no data regarding self-perceived leadership behaviors among pediatric residents. The objective of this study is to provide descriptive data regarding self-perceived leadership behaviors among pediatric residents at two residency programs.
