Abstract

The mechanical properties of any polymeric material, particularly for a semicrystalline polymer, depend greatly on the material's crystallization behavior and crystal structure. The incorporation of a reinforcement phase (regardless of dimensionality) is known to be able to affect the crystalline kinetics, crystalline morphology, and degree of crystallinity of a polymer matrix. Therefore, studies of the kinetics, process, and morphology of crystallization of clay-containing polymer nanocomposites are very active research issues. This chapter critically summarizes the effect of clay nanoparticles on aspects of the crystallization process, such as crystallization kinetics and crystal growth behavior, of most important polymer–clay nanocomposites.
