Abstract

BACKGROUND CONTEXT: Although hook constructs remain the gold standard for the treatment of adolescent idiopathic scoliosis, pedicle screws may offer advantages in the correction of spinal deformity. The technique is not widely applied for thoracic deformities for fear of neurologic complications. The increased cost of pedicle screw fixation may be offset by shorter operative time, blood loss, and hospital stay.
