Abstract

AbstractTFT‐LCD TV has begun to occupy a large portion of the TV display market due to features including thinness, light weight, compactness, and free setting. Aside from physical characteristics, the most emphasized aspect has been the contrast ratio for better image quality. To increase contrast ratio over 1:600, polarizer film, backlight sheet, color filter resin, taper angle of electrode, and rubbing conditions have all been investigated. The optimum backlight sheet combination, smoothly tapered electrode angle and the control of rubbing method are the main controlling factors for increasing contrast ratio. The application of a newly developed color filter resin was the most effective for achieving this high contrast ratio.
