Abstract

Examining points of views of students toward science topics that are not asked in the national exams is an important subject in the science education. However, there are not sufficient studies regarding this topic. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to examine students’ points of views toward science topics which are not asked in the national exams and are placed on nationaleducation program. This study was conducted by phenomenology. The participants of the study are comprised of 40 8th grade students who received science lesson in a private secondary school in Kayseri province within the 2013-2014 academic year, autumn term. Data was collected using semi structured interviews and observations. Data was analyzed using content analysis. Based on results, all participants had negative points of view toward science topics which are asked in the national exams and are not worried. Moreover, only high achiever participants had positive view toward topics which are not asked in the national exams and are worried. Implications were discussed
