Abstract
Though the interest in English historical linguistics in Southern Europe is relatively recent, the present chapter shows that over the last 20 years scholars in France, Italy and Spain have published innovative research in the field, both in the more traditional areas of English historical linguistics (historical lexicology and lexicography, dialectology, textbooks and teaching materials) and in new research areas (grammaticalization and mechanisms of change, corpus linguistics, text types and specialized discourse, historical sociolinguistics, historical pragmatics, multidimensional and computational analysis).
