Abstract

Traditionally, fibular free flaps (FFF) have been shown to be the gold standard for osseous head and neck reconstruction. Head and neck cancer patients often exhibit risk factors for atherosclerosis. In some cases a FFF cannot be used as its harvest risks precipitating limb ischaema. Scapular free flap (SFF) reconstruction allows for bony reconstruction as well as having the option of incorporating other flaps based on the subscapular artery system.
