Abstract

Objective: Pharmacological ovarian stimulation is a widely used treatment of sterility. Its rare iatrogenic complication is ovarian hyperstimulation syndrome (OHSS) and ectopic pregnancy. In pathophysiology of OHSS the increased level of vascular endothelial growth factor, high plasma levels of oestrogen and hCG probably play a majorrole. These lead to intensified ovarian angiogenesis and vascular permeability. Progression of the disease is more dramatic if pregnancy occurs. Case report: Oocytes donor who underwent pharmacological ovarian stimulation and ovulation induction is admitted to hospital when stomachache spreads to her back and right leg and asthenia occurs.
