Abstract

Hypotension is an important indicator of inadequate systemic perfusion associated with a high rate of mortality for patients admitted to the hospital. However, there is limited research regarding hypotension in the emergency department (ED). The objective of this study was to determine the mortality rate of ED patients who are hypotensive on arrival compared to patients who become hypotensive in the ED. It was hypothesized that mortality rate would be higher for patients who were hypotensive on arrival due to concern for a potential delay in treatment.
