Abstract

In order to increase the burst strength of CFRP pressure vessel, their hoop stress should be reduced under an internal pressure. This paper presents a method how to increase to burst strength of CFRP pressure vessel. The shape memory alloy (SMA) wire memorized a compressive stress is wound around the surface of CFRP pressure vessel. When the CFRP pressure vessel is received the internal pressure, its hoop stress can be reduced by the compressive stress of SMA wire and then the experimental results of increasing burst strength are obtained. Furthermore, the experimental results are compared with numerical ones in this paper.
