Abstract

We propose a display‐integrated Near Field Communication (NFC) antenna design using Magnetic resonance coupling (MRC) for enhanced NFC power transfer and for extended large area NFC interface. By using MRC the power transfer, expressed in induced electric potential, from display‐integrated NFC antenna transmitter to the Proximity Integrated Circuit Card (PICC) tuned to 16.1MHz at height of 40 mm from the center of the integrated transmitter is enhanced to 2.93 V from 1.91 V, obtained without using MRC. MRC approach also allows expanding the NFC card readable area to farther than 2.5 times the size of the antenna. As a result, the power transfer characteristics of MRC based Display‐integrated NFC transmitter antenna are compatible with the Europay MasterCard Visa consortium (EMVCo) standard for contactless payments transactions and the design is suitable solution for large area NFC interface for connected devices in Internet of Things (IOT) applications.
