Abstract

Aromatic polyamic acid of high molecular weight was obtained by the reaction of 4chloroformyl phthalic anhydride with 4, 4′-diaminodiphenyl methane in the presence of acid acceptor in non-basic, polar, and aromatic solvents having poor solubility of water, such as acetophenone, benzonitrile, and nitrobenzene, in anhydrous system. The molecular weight was comparable to that of the polymer obtained from the solution polymerization in anhydrous dimethylacetamide.
