Abstract
This chapter presents an overview of the science and technology of adhesives and sealants. The chapter describes the chemistry of pressure-sensitive adhesives, hot melt adhesives, natural product-based adhesives, and structural and rubber-based adhesives. The chapter also describes the chemistry of sealants, which includes silicones, acrylics, polyurethanes, and polyisobutylene. In addition, many of the applications of these materials are discussed. Primary test methods for these materials are also described.
