Abstract

The object of this article is to study the one-spatial dimensional thermal and mechanical waves in a piezoelectric infinite hollow circular cylinder subjected to thermal, electric, and mechanical loadings. Based on the coupled generalized theory of thermopiezoelectricity along with the modified Fourier law, the governing equations are expressed by a set of first-order partial differential equations. This system of equations is analyzed by the method of characteristics. The numerical calculations are carried out for a traction free PZT-4 hollow circular cylinder subjected to impulsive inner surface heating.
