Abstract

An 80-year-old man presented to the emergency department with a 1-week history of progressive, transient, monocular vision loss, binocular diplopia, transient headache, and lightheadedness. Clinical comorbidities included obesity, hypertension, hyperlipidemia, former tobacco smoking, and femoral popliteal artery bypass surgery. He also had bilateral cataract surgery the month before presentation, which occurred without complications. Upon presentation, the patient’s medications included aspirin 325 mg daily (prescribed after bypass surgery), hydrochlorothiazide 25 mg daily, lansoprazole 15 mg daily, losartan 25 mg twice daily, metoprolol tartrate 100 mg twice daily, and simvastatin 80 mg daily.
