Abstract

Adolescence is a life stage where learning to socialize with one's peers is a critical developmental task. Adolescents today use Facebook as a major source of social communication and interaction, and it may be replacing offline social interactions. It is unclear how the use of this site is impacting adolescent's social interactions offline, and whether social anxiety may moderate this relationship. This study examines college students' perceived effects on social interactions offline, amount of time spent on Facebook, and social anxiety.
