Abstract

Abnormal psychology is concerned with behaviour that is atypical and with mental disorders and disabilities. Studying normal behaviour helps in understanding abnormal behaviour. ‘What happens when things go wrong? Abnormal Psychology’ looks at how we define ‘abnormal’ behaviour, categorize it, and attempt to understand it. The line between normal and abnormal is not clear. Behaviour that is normal in one situation might be regarded as abnormal in another. What causes abnormal behaviour? It has been attributed to a wide variety of causes throughout history. Despite the difficulties in defining abnormal behaviour, psychology has provided some understanding of the field to try to find the best ways to treat it.
