Abstract

The ‘sacred eye’ of Egypt brings together the two most important elements in Egyptian religion: the solar cult and the Osiris cult. The sacred eye is now one of the best known symbols of Ancient Egypt and can be seen in all sorts of places. ‘The eyes of heaven: pairs and sequences’ looks at the myth of the sacred eye in detail: where it came from, what it meant, and what it means now, along the way telling the myths related to the sacred eye. Egyptian myths, as with other myths, have changed over time. Through ritual and magic, the lives and afterlives of the Egyptians can be made to conform with mythical events.
