Abstract

Recently many efforts have been devoted to producing hydrogen by photocatalytic reforming of organic substrates. This process, which provides a fascinating way to harvest and convert clean and renewable solar energy into chemical energy, is promising, sustainable, economical, and friendly to the environment. Among many strategies to improve photocatalytic hydrogen production, many studies have focus on the design and construction of high-performance, stable, and visible light active TiO2-based photocatalysts. Additionally the uses of different classes of pure organic substrates or renewable lignocellulosic biomass, (waste)biooxygenates as a potential building block sacrificial agent are also highlighted and critically evaluated. In this chapter, different approaches to modify TiO2-based photocatalysts are reviewed. A systematic examination of pure organic substrates, lignocellulosic biomass and waste feedstocks on photoreforming is also critically evaluated. This chapter expects to bring more values that could provide a guide for future research on photocatalytic hydrogen production.
