Abstract
Laboratory #8, Footwear and Tire Impressions, introduces the student to various techniques for identifying footwear and tire impressions at crime scenes. The techniques used to photograph and enhance evidence on both two- and three-dimensional surfaces are explained. Information on collection is included with examples of ways to complete dental stone casts, inked impressions, and Biofoam samples. Class and individual characteristics are used to explain the necessary requirements needed for a comparison within the forensic laboratory. The chapter ends with a laboratory exercise to show proficiency with locating footwear and tire impressions, as well as documenting the evidence through photography and completion of required paperwork.
