Abstract

This chapter presents a categorized bibliographical survey of goal programming (GP) applications. The decision maker, whether a public agent or a private individual, usually does not have a utility function with a single argument, as occurred with traditional approaches. In agricultural planning, most GP applications address the problem of determining an optimum cropping pattern by taking into account several goals. In fisheries management, GP models have been directed mainly in two directions: (1) the optimum design of the fishing fleet for a given geographical area and (2) the optimum management of a watershed. The area of finance, socio-economic planning and investment planning is where GP has been most widely used.
