Abstract

Free multiple sorting is an old method that has been recently introduced into sensory science. The method is distinguished most importantly from “single” free sorting, as a whole product space is retrieved from each assessor through ad libitum categorization of samples rather than a single category measure. Perceptually, the assessor is less restricted than in “single” free sorting, and free multiple sorting is still considered a rapid approach. For the analyst, global sample spaces are easily obtained, although the descriptive data may take longer time to process. The chapter gives an overview of free multiple sorting, the theory behind it and a practical guide to its implementation.
