Abstract

The purpose of this study is to investigate the effect of participation in National fitness award 100’s physical fitness class for 8-week on body composition and basic physical fitness to elderly men. The subjects of this study have participated in physical fitness class 23 elderly men aged 65 years or older at the P-city physical fitness certification center, and the comparison analysis performed before and after the exercise program. The main results obtained in this study as follow. First, there was a statistically significant difference body weight and BMI on body composition (p<.05). Second, there were significant differences in upper limb strength, lower limb strength, flexibility, and cardiopulmonary endurance among the six variables in basic physical strength (p<.05). In summary, it is considered that the National Fitness Award 100"s 8-week Physical Fitness Class has a positive effect on body composition and basic physical strength for the elderly. Basic weight training of dumbbells and barbells using, and strength exercises using small tools such as kettlebells, are considered to be effective in aging, muscle loss, and physical function deterioration for the elderly. National Fitness Award 100"s 8-weeks physical fitness class is a good result of the health policy at present and its practicality can be expected in the future. This study is expected to serve as the theoretical basis and various exercise programs will be activated in the concept of health promotion or social welfare for the elderly.
