Abstract

Purpose: This study aims to compare & analyze the effect of an 8-week corrective exercise program on the structural variables of neck curvature and the concentration in college students with forward head posture.<BR> Method: In this study, 30 college students with forward head posture participated, and they were randomly divided into two groups; the corrective exercise group (CEG: n=15) and the control group (CG: n=15). The corrective exercise group performed corrective exercise 3 days per week and 60 minutes a day for 8 weeks. The cervical curvature structural variables (thoracic cobb"s angle, angle of Cervical Curvature, forward head angle, and shoulder angle) and concentration (Continuity value & Performance value) were measured before and after corrective exercise for 8 weeks. Statistical analysis was done using a two-way repeated measured ANOVA. Paired samples t-test and independent samples t-test were carried out to find out if there was a significant interaction effect.<BR> Results: The results of this study are as follows. 1) After the intervention of 8 weeks, the thoracic cobb"s angle (p<.01), Angle of cervical curvature (p<.01), forward head angle (p<.001), and shoulder angle (p<.001) were significantly decreased in the corrective exercise group than in the control group, and there were significant differences between two groups. 2) In the CEG, the concentration showed significant improvement after exercise therapy (p<.001) than in the CG.<BR> Conclusion: The corrective exercise program has a beneficial effect on the structural variables of the cervical curvature. An increase in the concentration is associated with the improvement of spine curvature. Therefore, the corrective exercise should be considered as an effective intervention to improve the cervical curve and concentration for patients with forward head posture.
