Li etal. and Freitas etal. recently identified 7-dehydrocholesterol (7-DHC), a sterol produced through the cholesterol biosynthetic pathway, as a lipid-soluble antioxidant that protects cells from ferroptosis, a cell death pathway triggered by iron-catalyzed phospholipid peroxidation.1,2.
