Abstract
An anti-angiogenic state has been implicated as a cause of preeclampsia, fetal growth restriction and fetal death (FD). VEGF, an indispensible angiogenic factor for embryonic and placental development (Nature, 1996) exerts its angiogenic properties through the receptor VEGFR-2. A soluble form of this receptor has been recently detected in maternal blood (Mol Cancer Res 2004). The aim of this study was to determine if fetal death was associated with changes in the concentrations of sVEGFR-2 in maternal plasma (P) and amniotic fluid (AF).
