Abstract

In this paper, we introduce deep learning (DL)‐based backlight extraction methods for local dimming display. The main objective is to better handle the trade‐off between the displayed image quality and power consumption. To this end, we propose an enhanced power regularization. Moreover, we design a smaller model with reduced computational complexity and propose an efficient post‐processing for better generalization. Experimental results show that the proposed methods reduce power consumption while better maintaining the image quality than the selected benchmarks.
