Abstract

Outcomes and durability of current continuous flow left ventricular assist devices (LVADs) have improved significantly compared to previous pump technology. However, right heart dysfunction remains a problem despite the improved outcomes with CF LVADs. Surgical options for bridge to transplantation (BTT) in patients with biventricular failure are total artificial heart (TAH) or biventricular support (BVAD). This study examines the differences in outcomes in post-transplantation survival in patients with TAH or BVAD as BTT.
