Abstract

Head and neck oncologists are often confronted with the difficult challenge of balancing cancer cure with the preservation of function when deciding the patient’s best management. The beavertail modification of the radial forearm free flap (RFFF) has been previously described for tongue base reconstruction only. We describe a new indication for its use for total parotidectomy defects to address the increase risk of Frey’s syndrome, sialocele and associated significant contour deformity.
