Abstract

Diabetes Mellitus and chronic hyperglycemia are associated with many complications including delayed wound healing and diabetic foot ulcers. Mechanisms behind this wound healing failure remain poorly understood but may include differential expression of two molecules, tumor necrosis factor stimulated gene 6 (TSG-6) and thrombospondin 1 (TSP-1). These proteins, which interact with each other, play important roles in wound healing and display altered expression in diabetic mouse models and cell cultures.
