Abstract

The connection between dyslipidemia and inflammation is well established in the pathogenesis of preeclampsia. Lipid laden macrophages are found in decidual spiral arteries of preeclamptic placentas. Serum from preeclamptic patients readily promotes monocyte recruitment to dysfunctional endothelial cells, implicating serum-borne proteins in the chemotaxis and extravasation of immunocytes. A potential mechanism of action for the aberrant regulation of proteins is a change in glycosylation status of plasma proteins in early pregnancy.
