Abstract

Foramen ovale (FO) is an opening between the right and left atrium, and FO volume blood flow makes up a significant proportion of left ventricular cardiac output (LVCO). However, it is unknown whether FO volume blood flow can be further increased. We hypothesized that during acute fetal pulmonary artery (PA) occlusion FO volume blood flow increases, in order to maintain adequate systemic cardiac output.
