Abstract

Reversal of flow in the ductus venosus (DV) is one of the last parameters to become abnormal in the growth restricted fetus (IUGR), suggesting myocardial dysfunction. Pulsatile flow in the umbilical vein (UV) has been attributed to disturbances of flow in the DV. The study hypothesis is that mechanisms other than a-wave reversal in the DV cause UV pulsations.
