The recently published Centers for Disease Control and Prevention Sexually Transmitted Infection Treatment Guidelines (2021) state that, for women choosing rectal chlamydia testing, self-collected rectal samples are a reasonable alternative to clinician-collected rectal samples when clinicians are not available or when self-collection is preferred over clinician-collection. Little is known about adolescent females’ acceptance of and preferences for rectal sampling for sexually transmitted infection (STI) testing.
